Magic Cookies

Warm, gooey magic cookies fresh out of the oven.

These yummy bars are not what I would consider a culinary adventure, but I decided to make some for a care package and thought I may as well blog it.  I allowed my husband to “try” one and literally had to slap the second one out of his chocolate-covered fingers.  I obviously should have made two batches.  They are also known as 5 layer bars and are a cinch to put together.  There really is no rhyme or reason to the layering except for the graham crackers on the bottom and the condensed milk on the top.  This is a great bring-along desert dish for a party or a bbq.

Makes 12 large or 24 small bars

  • 1 3/4 cups honey graham cracker crumbs
  • 1 stick butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup pecans, chopped
  • 1 cup butterscotch chips
  • 1 cup shredded coconut (sweet)
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk

1.)  Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  In a medium bowl, combine melted butter and graham cracker crumbs with a fork until well combined.  Spread crumbs into the bottom of a 9 X 13 pan and pat down until firm.

The graham cracker base for the bars.

2.)  Add pecans, butterscotch chips, coconut, and chocolate chips.  Drizzle top of bars with entire can of sweetened condensed milk.

3.)  Bake for 30 minutes until melted and gooey.  Let bars cool and cut into 12 large bars or 24 smaller ones.
